A Thought for the Day on Money and Politics

by Robert W. Peck – Chairman, Constitution Party of Washington and writer of the American Perspective

money-politics-illustration-2 People often assume, and wrongly so, that because the Constitution Party is a political party, we’re flushed with funds. They have the idea that anything associated with politics by nature attracts large sums of money. But in the ranks of principled, Biblically and Constitutionally oriented, patriotic political organizations, it just isn’t so. Why not? Because unlike the two establishment parties, we’re not in the business of influence peddling. We have no power or special favors to offer to unions, special interest groups, Wall Street banksters, crony capitalists or others who may be greedy for gain or who lust for power over their fellowman.

Unlike American Idol, we don’t offer fame. Unlike the lottery, we don’t offer fortune. Unlike the government welfare state, we don’t even offer a free lunch. The only thing the Constitution Party and patriots like me have to offer our fellow countrymen is liberty. That precious commodity is only obtained by those willing to pay a high price to get it. It is only profitable to those willing to take the personal responsibility necessary to prosper by it. It is only retained by those willing to exercise the vigilance necessary to keep it.

The next time you see a well funded candidate or political organization that is flushed with funds, you might ask yourself why those with the deep pockets have seen fit to give to that candidate and what they expect to gain by it.

Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens: (Exodus 18:21)
